Sister Wolf Fundraiser

Readers, (are you out there?) I usually don't advertise on this blog, leading to useless stuff and spam.  I won't now.  However, I will post something if it's for a good cause.
Help Sister Wolf!  She has had a devastating loss this year, and $35 from the purchase of the Little Woolf necklace by Wendy Brandes will go to Sister Wolf to raise money to fix her leaking roof.

Help a fellow blogger!  Click here to buy the necklace.

I am not sponsored/paid to write this post.

Fall Shopping

I'm shopping way too much lately, really.  For the last few weeks, I've been buying fall staples...jeans, cargo pants, sweaters, boots, and cardigans.

So to prevent my bank account from fainting on me, I've been living vicariously through online shopping, creating fall outfits in my head.  Can you believe it was 80 degrees today?!  Fall is out of whack(yes, I know that is a really old reference).

Here we are: Casual/Business

Open for Business Cardigan  Pair a sleek, casual tank underneath this cardigan to transition from business to casual wear.

Quirky, and playing into this year's leather trend, this skirt brings just a little bit of edge to an otherwise strict outfit.

I just realized that all these items look very business/classy/casual, so why not continue the trend?  These boots are perfect for dreary gray days, and have the right amount of sass to stand out on their own.

can you hear the whispers of a thousand hearts beating?

Yes, my hair has blue streaks in it.  In case you can't tell, it's on the left side of my head.  Had to bleach it twice because my naturally dark hair WOULD NOT lighten.  Also redyed it three times, because it's semi-permanent and started to fade.  It's not this noticeable in real life; it's only this bright when sunlight hits it (like a vampire? not!).

I could never be a nail polish blogger.  This teal is Sonia Kashuk's Taunting Teal from the fall/winter collection, and while gorgeous, dries to a darker shade than what's  in the bottle.  Like, really dark.  I'm wearing this with a slightly shimmery satin topcoat, so the color is not quite true.   Love it though.

I haven't been to the flea market in a while, but I ended up finding something for my friend's birthday(shh, don't tell her!), a mask pin, a scrap booking/inking pen, and a fleur-de-lis bracelet.  All for under $20!
The watch and the horse pin are not from this trip's finds; the watch was from Etsy and I added a chain, the silver pin was from a different trip.  I thought the mask pin was fitting, seeing as our school is performing a Shakespearean comedy!

That's all for now!  I'm beat, and I still need to study!

Fall Finds

Fall has come so quickly this year; only two weeks ago, it was 80 degrees out!  However, now, even on the usually sunny West Coast, the weather is getting colder, and just yesterday it started raining.  Time for fall, and fall trends!

Jeans:  I found out just today that Target has really upped their denim game.  Currently, they have six different fits (though I only saw four in the store), like mid-rise, low rise, relaxed fit, etc. throughout the store, with different washes and styles and lengths in short, regular and long.  This makes denim buying a snap!  As long as your know your fit and size, it's easy to buy a particular style of jean.  I'm especially pleased that they have different lengths, because usually pants are too long for me, and it's annoying to hem them.  However, the jeans I bought were cheap, stylish, and fit perfectly!  I definitely recommend going to Target if you need new, budget-friendly jeans. (Note: The fit 6 jeans come in odd sizes, are are more of "juniors" jeans.  The rest come in the typical women/misses even sized jeans.  Also, this is 99% cotton, so it might stretch a bit in the wash, though I haven't tried.)

Knits:  Hand made, alpine, and cable sweaters are getting popular this season.  Keep warm this winter!

Boots:  Utilitarian style boots are back, but more feminine-softer contours, slimmer heels and and comfier than platform heels.

Nail Polish:  Gray, brown, taupe, and green nails (keeping in with the military theme) are the focus here, from Chanel to drugstore.  I like Sew Psyched by Essie, a greenish-gray shade.

Steampunk Necklace Gothic COSMIC OWL - Vintage Old Watch Movement with Silver Wings and Chain - Steampunk Fashion Jewelry from Cosmic Firefly

And not necessarily on trend, but how cool is this steampunk necklace?  Definitely statement jewelry.

Modcloth Finds

Err, I have been kind of boring and obsessive these past few months and I'm sorry about that...you would think, that with summer and vacation and time and all I would be able to be interesting and productive but no...I had to slack off and be lazy and browse websites full of coveted clothing that I won't buy.  There is something about summer that says, "Hmm...I want to do something memorable and fun, but it's such a lazy day, I can always do it tomorrow, who cares"...and then it's the end of July (and I'm a year older!).  And you have no inspiration.  And have to prepare for the new school year.

But alas!  This post is devoted to more frivilous things.  Here are things I want to buy from Modcloth, a sweetly retro website I found out about months ago:
Perfectly 90's with my new Dr. Martens (news coming soon!)
Something I wouldn't wear, but that Lady Gaga might!

Lovely and elegant.  Too bad I have too many shoes.

I've heard that the military trend is carrying on through fall.  This short-sleeved version would be great for layering.
Such a gorgeous scarf!  The color and the design make this one pop.

I love the play-on-words names and the funky, colorful vibe of the store.  So delightful to browse through(I really shouldn't so often).  Also, can you see that fall clothing is on my mind?

Metal Fangs

Or claws, really.

The Hawk Talon
Starling Skull
The Magpie

Finally...get ready for THIS:

Predator Rings 5piece set by DanielleNicoleMetals

Freakishly amazing.
And no, I am not going to start collecting skull replicas or attaching spikes to my clothing anytime soon.  It's just that I had seen some fine specimens of claw jewelry around the blog-space, plus then one of my friends reminded me of where I found them...the last piece I saw on an Etsy Storque post.  I think the skulls are a bit morbid, and the rings could possibly do some serious damage (don't know if they actually do claw though), but the individual talons are intriguing.

Why has this suddenly turned into a bunch of long, drawn out sentences?

Anyway.  These types of pieces always fascinate me.  Maybe because I don't spend enough time looking for cool jewelry on blogs, so I'm always late to the party.  Or maybe because I'm slightly morbid.

Spring Style

Hurry up, spring!  It's  been oddly rainy and cloudy the past couple of days, and I just want to sit outside and soak up all the sun (with sunscreen on)!

Items in this set:
Sorbet Rope Shirt, $225
Discount McQ Draped jersey tank | theOutnet.com, 170 GBP
Chevron cutout skirt, $295
Kimchi Blue Canvas Camera Bag, $38
Silver lace ring, $420

Expensive, but a person can dream right?

This spring, for me has been about skin-tone (or beige), nautical design, lace, and of course, the obligatory brights.  I especially like lace and neutral fabrics because of the way they provide a delicate touch to an outfit but also add visual interest because of contrast.  Coral and turquoise here are two of my favorite spring/summer colors because they remind me of the beach!  Very enlivening.

I plan to paint my nails orange for graduation, to go with a dusty pink/black dress.  What do you think?

Ring Around

After watching the movie version of The Outsiders, I spontaneously began to be obsessed with rings.  Strangely, in the movie only one character wears rings, and he beats up the friend of the main character, so I don't know when this came about.  Maybe because I realized that I don't have any rings.  I've always thought they were annoying, because they would never fit that well, and because wedding rings are traditional symbols for marriage (In Western culture anyway).  But today I've been searching around Etsy for some interesting rings:

Target Knockoffs?

Really quick post.  Is it just me, or these very suspicious?

Famous Footwear

Target
Personally, I would go with the Target shoes if I were buying them to save money, but after comparing these two almost identical shoes from different brands and stores, I don't know...Maybe they had the same design group?

Just a bunch of random things I like.  But seriously, how great are those wedges?  Looks a bit high though...
I've been sick for a week now, so posting is going to be a little slow.  Enjoy spring!

Zac Posen for Target

Dang, Target.  You're on a roll this year.  With all these limited edition collections, you'd think Tasrget was moving up-scale.  Then you hear about a temporary plan to make Target stores more like Costco, cutting higher-end merchandise and introducing more necessary items like towels and packaged food.  Why?  Cool stuff for cheap is also a neccesity in this economy.  Anyway, they did a good job on the winter Rodarte collection, and I'm expecting similar quality (or at least good designs) for the Zac Posen for Target collection.  When I saw the lookbook on Fashionista.com, I was not dissapointed (yet).  It's more colorful and ready for summer, and gives me a chilling-on-the-beach-in July vibe.

I love that dress.  I've been wanting a denim-look dress for a while, and that looks so slouchy and casual.  The belt is interesting too.

The raincoat is an unique addition.  I like the lines of the coat, and the contrast with the black skirt.
Will anyone be looking forward to this collection?

Heavy Machine: Woah!

I don't really like to obsess about shoes, because most of them are really expensive/ not practical to walk around in, but occasionally I do understand when people do.  And I have.  Right now, it's HEAVY MACHINE, after I found it on Style Bubble:

Wow.

If I could run walk in high heels, this would be awesome.  How amazing are these shoes?  Cool design, funky shape, a standout.  End of shoe obsession rant.

Inspiration + Infatuation

I was busy with sickness and school the past few days, and I was feeling a bit uninspired on what to blog about.  In an act of desperation, I turned to some wonderful blogs and photos.  On style rookie, The Clothes Horse, and Fashion Pirates I realized they had all posted on inspiration.  Such as, what is inspiration?  How does something influence you or inspire you?  Something that influences me:

from UK Yahoo
Sherlock Holmes.  Victorian England, dapper gentlemen, practical yet elegant clothing/accessories.  A modern touch on a classic in the movie, with fighting and skilled manuevers.

Turns into this:  My Christmas present for myself.  I bought the face form Magnoliasupplie on Etsy, and used the chain to match it.  I wore it to see the movie!
Some more influence, this time from Teen Vogue:

from Teen Vogue
The name of that slide show said it all: Rebel Chic Fashion.  Edgy, clean, but colorful.  Everything is expensive though.

from FRUiTS magazine
What can I say?  I like street style.  I very much enjoy seeing non-models pull off what they want to wear.  I like color, especially since it is so foggy here.  I like contrasting elements too.
Overall, I'm not sure whether is is influence, inspiration, or just interesting to look at (but for your information, my bet's on all three!) but it's fun looking at culture + fashion.  I needed a break!  What do you think about this?

Rodarte for Target

I was sooo excited for this collaboration. Then I got sick, and it sold out on me. Bam! In a day? That's what I get for thinking it wouldn't be sold out where I live. (Seriously, I do not live in a fashionable city) However, I was sick, and so I couldn't get to the nearest Target today. I will stalk it tomorrow...

Rodarte® for Target® Juniors Swiss Dot Dress - Blue

This was going to be one of the only dresses I like! The contrast between the punk boots and the lace details of the dress makes a wonderful juxtaposition.

Rodarte® for Target® Juniors Mesh Lace Cardigan - Ochre

This is one of the items mentioned in the video made by Tavi(on Style.com) It's so lacy! And I need a not scratchy sweater.

The Rain

Language is really such a variable subject. Sometimes, gym class is physical education, "pro" and "skills", trousers are pants( but there are still trousers here), fashionista and reccesionista are mainstream now(my Language Arts teacher wouldn't probably approve, and who says that in real life?!), but I digress. My chosen word of the day is nascent.

Today, the weather forecast said it was to be rainy. I hoped that it would rain during physical education, because, really, who wants to run on a Friday? P.E. class came, and it was sunny here and warm. I remember thinking with vengeance, "The weather forecast lied!" Of course, we had to run a mile (not ameliorated by the nice name the teacher gave it). About two thirds of the way through, it started sprinkling. Then the wind picked up. After P.E., it started alternating between raining and drizzling throughout out classes. What a glorious day.

It might be nice to take photos of the rain, but our camera is severely lacking the thing known as quality. Here are things that remind me of today's rain:

Spring Rain. Aventurine and Freshwater Pearl Bracelet by DesignByMagriet

Sun Moon Stars Rain - embellished mixed media print on chipboard by mizkatie

Cloudy Day - hand painted silk crepe de chine luxury scarf by MuseSilkPaintings

Pretty, but the bracelet and the scarf are unaffordable. I need a silk scarf, too. However, this is why you go to flea markets.

Vintage Obsessed!

Recently, I've been noticing vintage jewelry more often. (Vintage Cloisonne Enamel Bangle by Vintage4U). Right now, I want an enamel bangle-I hardly ever wear jewelry. And something about enamel+thin bangle=right!

(Off white enamel and gold tone vintage Bangle BRACELET by tootsystreasures)

I think the idea of a poison ring is cool, because it would be useful for keeping small items in it.
