Interesting Links: Peculiar Beauty

Hello everyone!  I've been working on some personal projects for while, so I apologize for the silence on this end.

However, I've found some interesting blogs to browse through, one of them being Peculiar Beauty, a blog written by Bonnie Downing on ancient beauty remedies and vintage tips on anything from fashion, to exercise and cookbooks.  It's an entertaining and informative read; I've spent hours on her blog just browsing through the archives!  Mostly, though, I'm just glad modern beauty products and treatments have evolved from lead powders and kohl.

If you have time, be sure to give Bonnie's blog a read!

The Art of Camoflauge

I'm not making fun of her, but her dress really blends in nicely with the red carpet, doesn't it?  This made me smile.

Stella McCartney Resort 2011

I wasn't really inspired by anything from the 2011 resort collections, and I didn't have anything I wanted to post, because it's summer and I wanted to sleep in (didn't get to, unfortunately, but then I saw the Stella McCartney Resort collection on geometric sleep and it was SO GOOD.

It reminds me of the dress a friend wore to graduation.  One shoulder, floral lace design, paper doily-like shoulder poof?  Good enough for me.
I loved all the shapes of the dresses this collection.  So frock like, resembling the coat Madeleine wore in... Madeleine.  Like a paper doll in antique patterned paper.  (Sensing a pattern with paper, vintage patterns, and florals here?)(more on floral later)
Amazing.  I loved all the florals in this collection, because they seemed so new and inspired, more like a greenhouse than wallpaper.  This (first) was even more epic from the side, but the only picture was on geometric sleep.  Scroll down, and look.  The second dress is also amazing, something I would personally buy if I had the money.
Well tailored, I think we might see someone wearing this on the red carpet soon.  I kind of dislike the pants though, because together with the jacket, they make the silhouette seem elliptic.  Or maybe it's her hands.  The collar is an interesting touch; it makes the ensemble slightly different from it's-a-suit-in-black-and-white.

I also liked the cross cut jackets, but not the color.  Too fall-like.  Well, maybe this one is okay.

To summarize: well tailored, crisp, clean looks for Resort 2011, with "fresh" (I know, overused) floral patterns, a touch of vintage charm, cohesive (or at least wearable) colors and interesting shapes, even though she reused a few designs.  So yes.  It makes me want to dress up and have a fancy occasion to go to (which I am usually not one for).

Summer Shoes

How awesome are these shoes?  Buckles, leather, flat-but-not-too-flat = Awesome.  Also, her nail polish?  Looks like a gorgeous orange-red!  Perfect for hot weather.

Bleaching and Writing and Unimaginable Things

Okay, going through a mini-crisis here with graduation.  See, I bought this cheap black dress for graduation and decided it needed more jazz.  Eventually, I decided to use Rit's Color Remover to bleach the top part lighter, but guess what?  It's now an odd and rather unappealing shade of burnt sienna.  Well.  Apparently, the dress, which was on clearance, is now out of stock.  Great.  And I still need to return my shoes that are too high to walk in.
Posting, again, will need to get back on track after tests and family issues and school and whatnot.  I've been writing a bit lately, and I'm just getting started on a lot of projects.
Now I just to wait for the dye.
Sorry for the quick post, and (not literally)see you soon!
This is what I will do for graduation if I can't get a new dress.

Infrequency Up Ahead

Sorry!  I just got hard contacts, and my vision is still adjusting, so I can't spend a lot of time on the computer; plus I have a placement test and other state testing coming up soon that I need to study for.  Posting will be a bit sporadic (as usual) so bear with me!
In the meantime, enjoy this picture from Jack & Jil:

P.S. : For people living in the U.S., good luck with your taxes!

Happy Easter

SALE Lavender Paisley Egg - Easter and Spring Decor by KimArt

Updates:

April Fool's Day summary:  Got a sticker stuck to my back, sat on a plastic lizard, stole a ruler (now returned), ran a mile, and took a quiz (and was told the next day it was a joke).  Lovely.

Apparently, there seems to be a lot of "trendy" young people dying their hair gray.  From what I see though, it was first a light, pastel color (like lavender or blue) that faded and turned kind of platinum-ish.  Or the color is silver or light blonde.  Not really gray.  Runway

Am I the only one looking forward to this?  Cynthia Vincent for Target

I heard it's supposed to rain tomorrow here, and I have an optometrist's exam again, because I want to get a type of hard contacts for night.  I hope everyone has a Happy Easter (don't eat too many chocolate eggs)!

Random Pictures and an Update

I sort of wanted to take good pictures this week, but it's been cloudy and rainy and boring.  So, I just rolled with the horrible lighting and piles of stuff I need to pack and a horrible camera to document (sort of) the stuff in my room.
The Orient watch I won from a giveaway on the La Petite Fashionista's blog, yay!  Unfortunate that I have small wrist so it keeps on slipping.  Boo.  Isn't it shiny?  I got some glare as I was taking this picture.  It's my grandfather's birthday present now.
Some necklaces and a bracelet.
My Rodarte for Target cardigan.  So pretty, but it doesn't show up in this picture.  Would you believe that on teh second day the collection was released, this was the only cardigan left?!  (Sorry for the bad picture)
My hiking boots!  Very expensive.  But probably worth it.
I'm going on a week-long hiking trip next week, to a place where it snows and rains.  With no phone or Internet access.  So no more posts until I come back!

For Fashion Skeptics

If you don't really understand/know/care about why fashion is such a prevalent theme in blogs and media or culture now, you should read this by good morning midnight: why fashion is worth blogging about.

Now, good night-after hyperventilating for five minutes.  I have work to do tomorrow.

Jean Paul Gaultier for Target

What is with these Target collections?!  One after another, I'm getting confused...Jean Paul Gaultier for Target is coming out on March 7, exactly when I leave for a school trip for 5 days (bad timing!).  However, Target was right to do so many collections with these designers.  Even though they may not translate directly from the designers' minds to the lower-end mass market, they still imbue some wonderful designs to the broke peoplez (like me).  I think this collection has some fun prints and some nicely structured pieces to last through the not-quite-spring phase.

And, I still need a dress.  Preferably something semi-formal, for spring or summer.  Any ideas?

Tavi...In a Bike

A gratitious post today, even though I'm still sick and hacking away at the stuff in my lungs:

How cool is that?  I'm pretty sure my parents would have never let me do that when I was smaller. Our bikes didn't even have baskets attached to them.  It's great that Tavi Gevinson is getting positive attention.

P.S.Go Tavi for rocking that hat/bow at the Dior show!  If someone gives you a present, APPRECIATE it.

Buenas noche todos!

Design Mish Mash

I love design blogs.  Photography, art, fashion, paper goods, furniture, the works.  Unfortunately, I don't get to see a lot of blogs that reflect my aesthetics.  However, sites like Etsy and Shiny Squirrel do:
Video

Such a cool video!  Also on The Clothes Horse.
Fashion

Amazing, both the dress and the photography.
Art

 Such a pretty print.
There!  I've been sick for a while, so it's mostly images from other blogs for now.  When I feel better (and have more time), I'll rant about my life again.  Until then, enjoy!

Inspiration + Infatuation

I was busy with sickness and school the past few days, and I was feeling a bit uninspired on what to blog about.  In an act of desperation, I turned to some wonderful blogs and photos.  On style rookie, The Clothes Horse, and Fashion Pirates I realized they had all posted on inspiration.  Such as, what is inspiration?  How does something influence you or inspire you?  Something that influences me:

from UK Yahoo
Sherlock Holmes.  Victorian England, dapper gentlemen, practical yet elegant clothing/accessories.  A modern touch on a classic in the movie, with fighting and skilled manuevers.

Turns into this:  My Christmas present for myself.  I bought the face form Magnoliasupplie on Etsy, and used the chain to match it.  I wore it to see the movie!
Some more influence, this time from Teen Vogue:

from Teen Vogue
The name of that slide show said it all: Rebel Chic Fashion.  Edgy, clean, but colorful.  Everything is expensive though.

from FRUiTS magazine
What can I say?  I like street style.  I very much enjoy seeing non-models pull off what they want to wear.  I like color, especially since it is so foggy here.  I like contrasting elements too.
Overall, I'm not sure whether is is influence, inspiration, or just interesting to look at (but for your information, my bet's on all three!) but it's fun looking at culture + fashion.  I needed a break!  What do you think about this?
